Maisha gala jury motivation:
The award for artist of the year goes to a woman who has been referred to as ” a vitamin pill” and ” an experience”.
She is a colorful and charismatic entertainer and choir leader whose brand is African entertainment. Her repertoire consists of african freedom songs, gospel songs, african tales and dancing.
Whether you are 8 or 80, her undeniable and infectious energy will have you wiggling your hips, clapping your hands and singing in Ndebele, a language characterized and recognized by its clicking sounds. Her personal legend is to inspire Sweden to ‘click’ and dance.
Her work has been covered and reviewed in the Gothenberg Post, Katrinaholms Courir, Ulricehamns Paper, Borås Gazette, and by P4 Radio.
She is Gothenbergs 2010 Cultural Woman of the Year.
Ladies and gentlemen, the 2011 Maisha Artist of the Year is Gwanda, Zimbabwean Mamma Gumbo – Floid Gumbo.
